ESL to gain stronger foothold in SEA region with new Singapore office

ESL has announced the opening of a brand-new regional office in Singapore in an effort to further develop the esports scene in Southeast Asia.

The eSport event organizer also aims to add two more ESL One Dota 2 stand-alone events to their 2018 calendar following ESL One Manila 2016 and ESL One Genting 2017 — two successful major events in the region.

Both events, which boasts a prize pool of $250,000 apiece, are events of note amidst the growing influence of eSports in SEA as well as Asia in general, with viewership in the SEA region itself reaching peak numbers of 19.9 million last year, with expectations of further growth by the end of this year.

It also happens that he Mall of Asia Arena, which had been the venue for ESL One Manila, was also the location for Valve’s Manila Major and the Manila Masters, the latter event being jointly held by ESL and the Mineski Events team.

Accordingly, ESL has named Sebastian Radu as the appointed interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who will be leading the Singapore office as well as ESL’s efforts in operating and strategizing across the SEA region.

“ESL’s mission is to bring esports to every corner of the world,” Radu said in a statement posted on ESL’s official website. “(And) create legendary esports moments wherever we go.”

“With this strategic expansion, ESL is committing to bringing the best of esports to South East Asia, and to further build on the legacy left by the two successful mega events our company already held in Manila and Malaysia. We’re looking forward to future projects, events and partnerships that will bring us closer to this goal in our mission.”
